NICS Fall Sports

Varsity Volleyball – After 2 years as our JV Coach, Miranda Hoefert will be our Head Coach. Many thanks to Harry Selby for his 9 years of coaching at NICS. This past season Harry led the team to a 2nd place trophy in the season ending tourney and 2nd place in league play. The coming season begins with two weeks of daily practices before school begins the day after Labor Day.  During this time the coaches decide on the Varsity and Junior Varsity squad.  NICS hosts a preseason Jamboree the September 6-7. Matches will be played Friday evening and all day Saturday at Canfield Middle School. The season ends the 1st weekend in November with the Mountain Christian League Championship Tournament which will be held at Pullman Christian School.  There are currently 10 volleyball teams competing in the league.  In addition a number of non-league matches are scheduled during the season.

Junior Varsity Volleyball– We are excited to welcome Desi Sheetz as our new coach. (along with her husband Joel, a NICS graduate) Desi assisted with Jr. High VB last year and played on our volleyball teams for many years. The JV program has been growing steadily in Mountain Christian League. The JV tournaments towards the end of the season have been well received as a good addition to the VB program, helping prepare players for the Varsity level. The tournament this year is October 24-25.

Junior High Volleyball – After a great season with the girls, Kim Sahli is continuing as coach. She was very appreciative of the opportunity to coach such a great group of girls and is looking forward to her 2nd year. Kim has a passion for the sport, having become certified by the National Volleyball Association. The league has expanded with junior high teams in the past years. With 6 teams now in the Mountain Christian League the season will mark the league’s 1st season ending tournament on October 18th.[/color-box]

In addition they have won the end of year MCL Championship Tournament 5 times during the 9 year run. The 2014 tournament saw them capture 3rd place. The junior varsity has 10 games scheduled this year giving them valuable playing time.

Boys Varsity and Junior Varsity Basketball –Head Coach Nate Baughman and Assistant/JV coach James Noel will be returning for their 5th season. They are very excited about this coming season. This past season they were 2nd place in both league play and the end of season tourney. They played an excellent championship game during the MCL Championship tourney providing Oaks with the most competitive game they had the entire season. The Junior Varsity under James had a record of 13-2. For the first time in MCL history there will be a MCL Junior Varsity Championship Tournament, January 23-24.

Junior High Basketball – This year’s season runs from the end of January to the end of mid-April. NICS will have both girls and boys teams. Coach Bittner coaches the girls and Coach Tom Lassan coaches the boys. This past season the teams competed in the new Mountain Christian League Junior High Program. In addition 6 local teams, Oaks was added to the schedule. This coming season Christian Heritage and Classical Christian School in Post Falls will be joining the league. Tom led the boys 2nd place in league play and 2nd place in the Championship Tournament.

Elementary Basketball – NICS has had a girls’ team in the Post Falls Parks and Rec league for the past few years. Jerry Bittner has organized this team and this past year turned the coaching over to Jeremy Brennan who will continue to coach the girls in the upcoming season. In addition, there will also be a boys’ team coached by our Junior High coach, Tom Lassan. The NICS 5th and 6th grade boys are looking forward to being able to play ball as an NICS team.
